Maryville and Stan the Man, Inc. join forces to provide scholarships highlighting good sportsmanship
Maryville University and Stan the Man, Inc. are pleased to announce new sports scholarships, available to undergraduate students, aimed at providing financial assistance to those pursuing higher education with strong values in good sportsmanship.
The Musial sports scholarships are available to undergraduate student athletes enrolled in any program at Maryville. They are designed to add to Maryville’s pursuit of Access and Opportunity, helping students overcome financial barriers and achieve their academic goals. The scholarships will be awarded annually to two students who demonstrate good sportsmanship, embody class, character, and a strong commitment to their community.
“We are so proud to offer these scholarships to our undergraduate student athletes and to reinforce the values of good sportsmanship exemplified by the great Stan Musial,” said Mark Lombardi, PhD, president of Maryville University. “We truly believe that a solid education combined with the values of civic engagement and civil discourse form the foundation of a strong and vibrant society, and we are excited to help our student athletes reach their full potential of becoming our leaders of tomorrow.”
These scholarships compliment the commitment Maryville continues to fortify with the Musial name. This past year the 2022 Musial Awards, presented by Maryville, aired on CBS and Paramount+ and was seen by over 2 million viewers during its Christmas Eve broadcast and re-air at the top of 2023. The show that annually inspires the nation by showcasing stories of sportsmanship and kindness in sports, nearly tripled its largest-ever audience in the four years it has aired on CBS. There is no question that this benchmark in viewership represents a positive step forward in the impact of the Musial name and how it is inspiring people to be good sports.
“As someone who loved competition as much as Stan did, he understood the value of good sportsmanship and teamwork when on and off the field,” says Michael Barnes, president of Stan the Man, Inc. “Even so, challenges of balancing academic and athletic commitments can be a lot to handle. That’s why we are thrilled to partner with Maryville and announce the Stan Musial sports scholarships, which will provide support for student athletes who demonstrate sportsmanship and academic focus. These scholarships reflect our commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders, both on and off the field.”
Maryville University is, and will always be, dedicated to providing its students with resources and support through the commitment of Access and Opportunity. The Musial sports scholarships are just one of the many ways in which the university and Stan the Man, Inc. are focused on helping students achieve their goals.
Applications for the Musial scholarships will be available in 2023. Considerations for the scholarships will be outlined on the Maryville website soon.
Thank you Fox 2 for the coverage of our big announcement.
