Maryville recognizes Korn’s achievements over the past eight years, establishing men’s soccer as a perennial Top 20 National DII soccer program.
[St. Louis, MO, December 11, 2023] – The Maryville University Athletics Department announces the transition of our esteemed head men’s soccer coach, David Korn, to his new role at NCAA Division I Marquette University. This marks a significant milestone in a career characterized by remarkable achievements and committed leadership.
“We want to express our gratitude to coach Korn for everything he has done for our men’s soccer program here at Maryville,” Director of Athletics Lonnie Folks said. “He has been instrumental in elevating our team to become a power both in the Great Lakes Valley Conference as well as on a national level. Coach Korn has been a true leader for our student-athletes on the pitch and in the classroom. We wish David and his family all the best.”
Reflecting on his eight-year tenure, Coach Korn expresses profound gratitude for the privilege of being an integral part of Maryville’s extraordinary community. “It is difficult to put into words how lucky I have been to work at Maryville these past eight years,” Korn said. “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this community and incredible culture. First, I want to thank the student-athletes I have been privileged to coach as they’ve been the pioneers who helped push the soccer program to new heights and position Maryville among the top in the country. Also, to our alumni, who from the day I arrived, have been supportive, engaging, and instrumental in our success.”
Coach Korn extends a special thanks to President Dr. Mark Lombardi, whose visionary leadership has been instrumental in the program’s ability to compete at pinnacle levels. He is equally appreciative of Marcus Manning, Lonnie Folks, and Brittany Fennell for their enduring support of his professional journey, his family, and the dedicated coaching staff, particularly Derek Zuniga and Sean Clancy, whose commitment and talent investment have been vital to the program’s success.
Coach Korn’s impact extends beyond tactical successes. He has been a mentor to major award winners, All-Americans, All-Region players, and a host of All-Conference talents, many of whom have progressed to professional careers. His commitment to academic excellence is equally impressive, with the Saints boasting a 100 percent graduation rate and outstanding team GPAs, reflecting the true spirit of student-athletes.
Maryville University extends its deepest appreciation to Coach David Korn for his indelible impact on our soccer program and the lives of our student-athletes. We anticipate his future endeavors will be met with the same integrity, passion, and success that have become the hallmark of his time with us.
