Maryville University’s 8th annual campus-wide community service day, Maryville Reaches Out (MRO), is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 22. More than 1,200 Maryville volunteers are expected to fan out across the greater St. Louis area to share time and talents with 90 local agencies and organizations.
Registration opens at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, and runs through 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14. On this day, classes beginning before 4 p.m. are cancelled so the entire campus community is able to participate.
MRO engages Maryville students, faculty, staff and alumni in a wide variety of service opportunities, including painting, landscaping, arts and crafts with children and adults, tutoring and reading with children, animal shelter work, sorting donated goods, office assistance, accompanying elderly residents on a zoo outing, light construction and much more.
Last year, nearly 1000 volunteers provided over 3,500 hours of service on 84 different projects. This year, there are more than 1,200 available volunteer spots on 90 plus projects.
