The Maryville community was overjoyed to celebrate an in-person Commencement for the first time in two years since the pandemic began. Nearly 1,000 graduates walked across the stage during two ceremonies — one undergraduate and a second graduate — at The Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo., on Saturday, April 30. Faculty, family and friends were also welcomed back to cheer on graduates.

Stancel Skelton, 83 years young, just earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Maryville. He’s a Maryville University Online student from San Jose, CA and flew to St. Louis for Commencement because he was NOT going to miss his opportunity to walk across that stage. He’s basically our hero! It’s not cliché: you are never too old to follow your dreams!
