Maryville Admissions (and Saints mascot Louie) recently visited Collegiate School of Medicine and Bioscience High School in St. Louis to surprise senior Elizabeth Maya with some great news. In front of a packed school assembly, we awarded her this year’s Presidential Scholarship. She was quite excited, and took the attention and accolades of her classmates in stride.
Over two weekends in late January and early February, 550 scholarship applicants came to campus for our annual scholarship competition. All with at least a 3.75 GPA or a score of 27 on the ACT, they attended various informational sessions and then sat for a round of private interviews with two-person teams comprised of a university official and a current Maryville Scholar.
Maya, a senior at CSMB, plans to become a veterinarian. She is the first student from the St. Louis Public School District to win this scholarship, and is also the first first-generation college student to receive it. Her award includes both tuition and room and board.
Maryville Admissions officials have told Mpress that handing out surprise oversized novelty checks is fun, and they plan on continuing the practice in the future.
Welcome to #SaintsNation, Elizabeth!
