Maryville University recently completed extensive upgrades to wireless broadband capabilities and security across campus, including technology upgrades in all buildings and outdoor green spaces.

“This investment places Maryville in the top 10 percent of wired campuses in the United States and that allows students to be connected to their learning at any time, any place, anywhere,” says President Mark Lombardi, PhD.

The installation of a comprehensive technology infrastructure is an important aspect of Maryville’s new strategic plan, A New Century of Higher Education: Maryville 2022. A central theme of the plan involves the creation of a campus-wide active learning ecosystem to engage students, faculty, staff and community partners around the world.

In addition, through Maryville’s Digital World pilot program, more than 400 iPads have been given to traditional, first-year students, and more than 180 iPads have been given to faculty and adjunct instructors. The recent technology upgrades will expand the learning opportunities provided through Digital World.

“We believe that these very significant investments in IT infrastructure will enhance the experiences of our students and enable an increasingly mobile pedagogy,” says Jerry Brisson, vice president for the Office of Planning, Research and Technology.

Significant technology upgrades across campus:

•  24/7 Help Desk to assist students, faculty and staff with technology needs
• On campus bandwidth is five times faster
• Internet bandwidth is over three times faster
• A new firewall enhances security and enables increased Internet bandwidth
• All classrooms and labs are now Apple TV-enabled
• Sound systems and technology have been upgraded in the Dining Hall, Simon Center and the Auditorium
• Technology has been upgraded in numerous classrooms and labs
• New technology has been installed in the new collaborative work/study rooms on the second floor of University Library
