If an All-Star is a person who completes an extraordinary season, Michael Braunfeld is an All-Star four times over, one for every year of his Maryville experience.
Braunfeld, a May 2017 graduate, is a two-time scholarship awardee. He is a member of the club baseball squad, and serves on the Rawlings Sport Business Management Leadership Council. During his college career, Braunfeld completed six internships and carried a 4.0 GPA.
“I thoroughly enjoy my classes at Maryville, my internship experiences and playing club baseball,” Braunfeld says. “Enjoying these activities makes it much easier to commit my time and energy to them. In addition, it takes hard work to break into the sports industry. It is a very competitive field, so I must work hard in order to achieve my goals of working in the front office of a professional sports organization. My passion for the industry has been a major motivator to keep working hard.”
Braunfeld credits Maryville’s unique Rawlings Sport Business Management program for opening many doors.
“If you put in hard work, professors will put in twice as much work to make sure you reach your goals,” Braunfeld says.
He landed internships with major sports franchises — the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues, where he served three stints. At the Blues, Braunfeld worked in ticket sales and services and corporate sponsorship, and as a business intelligence consultant.
“The program has allowed me countless opportunities to take what I learn in the classroom and apply it to real-life experiences in the business of sports,” Braunfeld says. “In addition, the professors in the program were instrumental in helping me land the internships.”
Companies have taken notice of his All-Star experience. Braunfeld is currently considering multiple job opportunities.
