Maryville Soccer Program Out to Historic Start

With a combined 10-0-0 record, Maryville is the only school in the NCAA (Division I, Division II and Division III) that has a pair of undefeated and untied soccer programs.

The women’s team is 4-0-0 and 2-0-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action to start the year. This is the best start for the Saints in the Division II era and the best start since the 2006 team started the season with five consecutive victories.

Alex Johnson is pacing the Saints offense with four goals and nine points in the campaign and has three game-winning goals to her credit. Madison Schmied and Stacie Muehling are anchoring a Saints defense that has given up one goal on the season.

The ninth-ranked men’s team is off to the best start in program history with a record of 6-0-0 and is currently 3-0-0 in GLVC play. They are also the top team in the United Soccer Coaches Midwest Regional rankings.

Braden Johnson leads the Maryville offense with four goals on the year while Ben Brodie and Grady Schliepsiek have three goals each. Iwan Webster and Liam Walraven key the Saints defensive unit which has allowed only three goals on the year. Maryville has surrendered just 10 shots on goal through six games.

Thank you to the NCAA for helping us share this good news.
