What Does the Office of Personal
Counseling Do?
Services available at Maryville include individual
and group counseling, educational workshops,
and referrals to outside psychiatric and mental health resources.
 
What Do People Talk About In Counseling?
Potential topics of discussion include (but are not limited to):
 
adjustment to college life
test anxiety or stress about school
relationship concerns
cultural discomfort
depression
eating disturbances
alcohol and/or drug use
academic struggles
lack of motivation or energy
low self esteem
personality assessment
self-exploration
grief
the stresses of daily life

The Office of Personal Counseling is located in Mouton, ground floor. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (314) 529-9556 or emailing jhenry@maryville.edu.

How Much Does It Cost?
Maryville University offers FREE, short-term, confidential counseling to all Maryville students!
 
What to Expect During Your First
Counseling Appointment:

If this is your first appointment with the Office of Personal Counseling, please arrive approximately 10 minutes early in order to complete some paperwork.

During your first appointment, you will have a chance to talk about the concerns bringing you in for counseling. The counselor will likely ask for some background information as well, to help better understand your concerns. You and your counselor will then talk about what you are hoping to gain or accomplish and decide together the best course of action.
