Partnerships
Maryville University’s School of Education partners with St. Louis area school districts with a focus on renewing teacher education and schooling. Our students are exposed to different cultures and innovative teaching through enriching research, intensive field-based coursework, and strategic clinical placement to fully prepare them in practice in a variety of settings. Maryville is a leader in Missouri and nationally in this collaborative effort.
Memberships
The School of Education at Maryville is an active participant in the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education , the Association for Independent Liberal Arts Colleges for Teacher Education , the Missouri Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, and the organizations listed above.
Accreditations
The educator preparation programs in the School of Education at Maryville University are nationally and regionally accredited.
Initial and Advanced Teacher Certification in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School and High School, as well as Initial (K-12 Principal) and Advanced (K-12 Superintendent) School Leader Certification programs at Maryville University are fully accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) and the State of Missouri through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
The School of Education’s national accreditation through AAQEP is valid through 2029. It involves a regular review of program alignment with the AAQEP standards through an annual report.
The School of Education’s state accreditation through DESE involves a regular process of alignment with state teacher education program standards and compliance with all aspects of appropriate Missouri state law and code.

The School of Education has a Unit and Program Assessment System to ensure the performance of its candidates. Title II of the Higher Education Opportunity Act mandates that the U.S. Department of Education collect data on state assessments, other requirements, and standards for teacher certification and licensure, as well as data on the performance of teacher preparation programs. Maryville University’s annual Title II report card, including performance on state exams, can be found in the Institutional Report.
